Absolute Magnetics

Next-Generation Magnetic Encoder Technology

Absolute Magnetics AG is a Swiss technology company based in Winterthur that develops next-generation magnetic rotary encoders and position-sensing solutions. Founded in 2023, the company focuses on making motion-control systems more accurate, robust, cost-effective, and easier to integrate.

The company has developed a globally patented magnetization technology that enables precise absolute position measurement without calibration. Its technology is designed to remain reliable even when there are mechanical tolerances, varying air gaps, shaft misalignment, temperature changes, or strong magnetic stray fields.

We offer...

The company’s core offering is magnetic absolute encoder technology for applications where accurate rotational position feedback is essential.

Its current solutions include:

  • AM Integrate Series – a ready-to-integrate magnetic absolute encoder offering approximately ±0.3° accuracy without calibration, 8–14 bit resolution, 0.2–2.0 mm air-gap capability, speeds up to 30,000 rpm, and ABI, UVW and SPI outputs.
  • Tailor-made encoder solutions – customized encoder designs developed around a customer’s mechanical, electrical and environmental requirements.
  • AM Evaluation Kit – a development and testing kit that allows customers to evaluate the technology and conduct their own accuracy tests.

The technology is particularly relevant to robotics, industrial automation, electric motors, automotive applications, logistics, power generation, medical technology, aerospace and measurement systems.

A major differentiator is that the encoder can operate without calibration and can tolerate relatively large air-gap variations and mechanical misalignment. Absolute Magnetics also states that its technology can withstand strong magnetic stray fields, making it attractive for applications where conventional magnetic or optical sensing technologies can become difficult to use.

We are looking for...

  1. Need absolute rotary position measurement
Applications requiring the exact shaft position immediately after power-up are a strong fit.
  2. Have difficult mechanical or environmental conditions
Their technology is particularly suited to applications with varying air gaps, mechanical misalignment, vibration, dust, temperature changes or magnetic interference.
  3. Want to eliminate calibration
Applications where calibration is difficult, expensive or impossible are especially relevant to their technology.
  4. Need high-speed sensing
Their current technology is designed for applications reaching up to 30,000 rpm, making it relevant to high-speed motors and other rotating machinery.
  5. Require a customized sensor solution
Absolute Magnetics explicitly invites customers to provide their technical requirements so that the company can develop a tailor-made encoder or integrated sensor solution.
  6. Are working on high-volume products
The company emphasizes a strong price-performance ratio and designs its technology with high-volume production in mind.
